The bridge is 2,737 metres long, with a main span of 1,280 metres, making it the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its construction. Its two towers, over 227 metres high, were also among the highest in the world at the time.
Its color, International Orange, was chosen not only for its aesthetic appeal, but also to ensure better visibility in fog, which is common in this coastal region.
The Golden Gate is both a traffic artery (thousands of vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians cross it every day) and a tourist icon, photographed from every angle by visitors from all over the world.
