Who created Cars?

Cars was created by John Lasseter, one of the co-founders of Pixar Animation Studios, also known for his work on Toy Story, the first CG-animated feature film. Released in 2006, Cars is Pixar’s seventh animated feature, produced in partnership with Walt Disney Pictures.

The idea for the film grew out of John Lasseter’s passion for cars and family travel on the famous Route 66 in the United States. John Lasseter wanted to capture the spirit of the road and the importance of small, forgotten towns, through the adventures of Lightning McQueen, an ambitious race car driver who learns lessons in humility and friendship after accidentally landing in the desert town of Radiator Springs.

The film depicts a world where vehicles come to life, and was an instant hit thanks to its innovative animation, endearing characters and blend of humor and family values. Cars also left its mark on the industry with its detailed approach to set design, paying homage to American car culture.

Following the success of the first film, Pixar produced two sequels: Cars 2 in 2011 and Cars 3 in 2017, and created a full-fledged franchise with spin-off products, attractions in Disney parks and TV series.

As director and executive producer, John Lasseter not only contributed to the animation, but also helped Cars become a fixture in Pixar’s catalog, marking a new era in animation and influencing a whole generation of young viewers.
