What is the capital of Sierra Leone?
Freetown is the capital and largest city of Sierra Leone. Located on the Atlantic coast of West Africa, Freetown was founded in 1792 by freed slaves returning from North America and was the first British settlement in West Africa.
The city is located on a narrow peninsula bordered by steep hills that fall precipitously into the ocean, making it a sheltered natural harbor.
Today, Freetown is the economic, cultural and political center of Sierra Leone and is home to many government and diplomatic institutions, as well as a diverse and multilingual population.
