Everest rises on the border between the city-prefecture of Shigatsé in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China and the Solukhumbu district in province No. 1 in Nepal. It rises to an altitude of 8,848 metres in the Mahalangur Himal, a massif in the Himalayas, making it the highest peak in Asia and the highest of the seven peaks.
