In 1995, the NBA experienced its first international expansion, in Canada, with the creation of the Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies franchises. In the 2001 season, the Grizzlies moved to Memphis, with the Raptors becoming the only team in the league to be located outside of the United States.
