What is the capital of Palau?
Melekeok is a small coastal town located on the east coast of Babeldaob Island, the largest island of Palau in the Pacific Ocean.
Since 2006, it is the official capital of Palau, replacing Koror which previously fulfilled this function. The city is located in a bay surrounded by green mountains and is considered a picturesque place with a breathtaking view of the ocean.
Due to its small size, Melekeok has only a handful of government buildings and other basic facilities, but it is an important symbol of Palau’s independence and sovereignty.
